When the Past Keeps Showing Up in the Present
Maybe you have built a life that looks steady from the outside, yet certain moments still knock you off balance. A partner pulls away and panic sets in. Someone gets close and you find a reason to leave.
These responses usually have a history. Early relationships teach us what to expect from closeness, whether it is safe to need people, and how to protect ourselves when it is not. Trauma and attachment therapy helps you understand that history and loosen its hold on the present.
“You know your reactions feel bigger than the situation, but understanding that has not made them go away.”
Who This Is For
Is This Right for You?
Trauma and attachment therapy may help if some of these sound familiar:
Childhood or relational trauma
Anxious or avoidant attachment patterns
Fear of abandonment or rejection
Difficulty trusting others, or trusting yourself
Repeating painful relationship dynamics
Feeling numb, disconnected, or always on guard
Emotional reactions that feel bigger than the situation
The lasting impact of emotionally unavailable or inconsistent caregivers
Grief, loss, or betrayal that still feels unresolved
What Working Together Looks Like
Free consultation. A 30-minute conversation to ask questions and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
First session. An intake session where I get to know your history, what is bringing you in, and what you hope will change. You are always free to skip any question.
Ongoing sessions. Psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes and typically weekly, in person in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles, or online anywhere in California.
Deeper work. For people who want to go further, psychoanalysis is available two to three times per week.
Throughout, you set the pace. We slow down when something feels like too much and stay with what needs more space.
01 · Understanding Attachment
How Early Experiences Shape Adult Relationships
The way we learned to connect as children often becomes the template for how we love, trust, and protect ourselves as adults. If caregivers were inconsistent, unavailable, or frightening, you may have adapted by staying on high alert, keeping people at a distance, or working hard to earn closeness.
Those adaptations made sense at the time. Later in life, they can show up as anxious or avoidant attachment, fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting others, or a pull toward relationships that feel familiar rather than safe.
In therapy, we look at these patterns with curiosity instead of judgment, so you can see where they came from and begin to choose something different.

02 · Grounded in Attachment
My Approach to Trauma and Attachment Therapy
My work is grounded in psychoanalysis and attachment theory. Rather than offering a quick technique to manage symptoms, we work to understand what your reactions are protecting you from and what they are trying to communicate.
Trauma is not only what happened. It is also what happened inside you as a result, and what was missing when you needed support. Some people come in with a clear memory of a painful event. Others carry something harder to name: a sense of never quite feeling safe, seen, or enough.
Either way, we go at a pace that feels safe. You decide what to share and when. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is forced.
Over time, therapy itself becomes a relationship where you can experience something different: consistency, attunement, and room to bring all of yourself. That experience is often where real change begins.
As patterns become clearer, many clients notice they react less automatically, trust their own perceptions more, and feel steadier in their closest relationships.
You do not need a clear story or the right words to begin. Noticing that something from the past is still shaping your present is enough.
You don’t have to carry it alone.
03 · What Begins to Change
Moving Toward Secure Attachment
Secure attachment is not something you either have or do not have. It can be built in adulthood through relationships that feel consistent and safe, including the relationship you build in therapy.
The goal is not to erase your history but to change your relationship to it. As we work together, clients often describe feeling calmer during conflict, more able to ask for what they need, less consumed by fear of rejection, and more at home in themselves.
This kind of change takes time. It also tends to last, because it comes from understanding rather than from willpower alone.

Trauma and Attachment Therapy FAQs
-
Attachment-focused therapy looks at how your earliest relationships shaped the way you connect, trust, and protect yourself today. By understanding those patterns, you can begin to build more secure ways of relating to others and to yourself.
-
No. We go at a pace that feels safe for you, and you decide what to share and when. Many people find that understanding their patterns in the present opens the door to the past gradually, without being forced.
-
Many people who come in for attachment-focused therapy do not identify with the word trauma. Ongoing emotional neglect, inconsistency, or never quite feeling safe or seen can shape you just as deeply. You do not need a label to start.
